2008 is here: the Drupal Ace to-do list

Here at the end of the year's first week, I wish all visitors a happy Year of the Mouse. Or is it Rat? Let's say Rodent; I'm in an ecumenical mood.

I've been slow in responding to recent emails and comments, here and on the Drupal forums. And for valid reasons: hard work developing some Drupal sites, plus – the big time-eater – impending arrival of a new family member. But I'll be on top of things in 2008, throughout the diaper changes and feedings and choppy sleep.

Here's a quick list of short-term tasks:

  • Report on my wrestling with teasers and disappearing "Read More" links. (Quick report: I still don't know why my links would disappear in the first place in some nodes on some sites, but it appears there's a certain clash between the Node Teaser and Read More Tweak modules.)
  • Update and release this site's theme.
  • Formally submit some suggestions (related to terminology) as issues.
  • Reorganize some redundant sub-menu items under the Drupal Stuff link, and better display the reorganized links.
  • Post some nice beginner-oriented how-to pages on a variety of topics. (I have these in a book in another database, and want to export them and then import then into this site, but my inquiry gets no replies. Well, let's see if I can figure something out using phpMyAdmin.)
  • Do some writing on SEO and traffic-building topics: my own experiments and questions, lists of resources, etc.
  • Ponder, discuss, and initiate ways that non-coders can better give back to the Drupal project.

And, of course, build a bunch of other sites whose ideas are still knocking around inside my spade-shaped head.

My thanks to all readers and commenters for the site's fine start a half-year ago. I look forward to much more discussion and progress in '08.

Drupal mini tip

Tired of logging in again and again to a Drupal site that keeps kicking you out? You can modify session length, i.e. the length of time that a logged-in session stays logged in, via the ini_set('session.cookie_lifetime'... line in the site's settings.php file. See details in Forum Finds: Modify length of user login sessions.
