Scraping the mold off of EDAM

All right there! I still have to add some new content, but I've carved a little of the hoary green rind from EDAM, the Easy Drupal Admin Manual. (Don't you hate blue cheese that isn't supposed to be blue!?)

Changes:

The Drupalace Curse appears to have once again sucked a page into the netherworld. The page Creating Links had disappeared, part and parcel, from site and from DB, for no reason that I can discern. Like so many pages before it. (This happens to me only on this site.) It's now restored, thanks to my demon-fighting arsenal of backups.

I fixed a bunch of internal links inside EDAM. All pages should now begin with the path EDAM. Please let me know if you see a broken link inside!

Fixed a few more confusing mentions of "page" vs "Page".

Now, how to find and plug this interdimensional vortex that eats my nodes?

And what to do with this pile of smelly mold shavings?

Uh oh! Internet Explorer alert!

Most Benevolent Reader GreenLED informs me that this site is showing major visual bugs in Internet Explorer. Aaargh, I had hoped I was immune to that curse...

I don't have a ready means to test my output in Internet Explorer, having no Windows computer. Alas, it looks like I'll need to use virtualization software in my upcoming MacBook Pro purchase, just for the purpose of testing sites on IE.

Oof! Hit by bad_httpd_conf error

Sorry to would-be readers who saw Site Temporarily Unavailable error id: "bad_httpd_conf" for an inderminate number of hours. "Now what?", I wailed...

Fortunately, this was easy to fix. It's not a Drupal thing (whew!), as spidersilk points out here. It's a glitch chez Dreamhost, which the ISP addresses in their support wiki. Calling up and re-setting my domain hosting settings fixed things within minutes.

Announcing the Drupalace.com Drupal Admin Manual!

Whew! It's up!

About a year ago, I wrote a Book of how-to pages as a beginner's site admin manual, which I used to get clients up and running. I've now relocated the Book here, for your edification and amusement as well. (Not a mean task; read more here.)

2008 is here: the Drupal Ace to-do list

Here at the end of the year's first week, I wish all visitors a happy Year of the Mouse. Or is it Rat? Let's say Rodent; I'm in an ecumenical mood.

I've been slow in responding to recent emails and comments, here and on the Drupal forums. And for valid reasons: hard work developing some Drupal sites, plus – the big time-eater – impending arrival of a new family member. But I'll be on top of things in 2008, throughout the diaper changes and feedings and choppy sleep.

Here's a quick list of short-term tasks:

Releasing this site's Drupal theme

Kind inquirer Rob asks about the origins of this site's green theme, and whether it could be made available for download. Why, these pages just might go all pink from blushing!

The theme is just hopped-up Zen, as described here: http://www.drupalace.com/page_my_site_setup

Gathering up the questions: the Drupal Ace Question Bank

I've started gathering up my many Drupal questions, whether from this site, from the Drupal.org forums, or elsewhere, into a single list. I hope that this will be of use to Drupalites – especially the hapless one that needs help the most, me.

I'd like this to become true Q&A, though it's starting with lots of Q and little A. Many of my questions remained unanswered. If you can help out with those, the many blessings of the Drop-Headed One will be upon you. In any case, I have many, many questions still to input, so please check in often.

My site setup

Some ongoing notes on this site itself.

Theme

Woo-hoo! As of the Fourth of July, a new site theme.

Theming is a key experience for the Drupal developer. It's one of the fundamentals.

And I hate it.

I'm just lousy at all aspects of site graphics, from image creation to CSS. Existing Drupal themes never fulfill me, and my attempts to hack them just add to human suffering.
